What is AITC?

The Artificial Intelligence and Technology Club (AITC) is a student-led community at the National University of Laos dedicated to exploring AI, technology, and their ethical applications for societal good. Inspired by collaborative communities like the historic Homebrew Computer Club, we foster innovation through open knowledge-sharing and experimentation.

The Spark Behind AITC

2000s

My fascination with AI began in the early 2000s, inspired by films and the untapped potential of AI in education. Back then, AI felt like wandering in a dark forest without tools or guidance.

2011-2013

As a lecturer teaching AI at the Computer Science Department, I faced the challenges of introducing AI in its infancy—like lighting a fire with damp wood. Resources were scarce, but the curiosity burned brightly.

2014-2019

I explored AI’s role in film production while dreaming of formal AI education (even applying for a Chevening Scholarship!). Though opportunities slipped by, I kept the flame alive through late-night Clubhouse discussions with Lao enthusiasts—rare moments of connection in a sea of uncertainty.

2020-2023

COVID-19 reignited my focus. I studied AR/VR in Japan, weaving AI into my research. Returning to Laos, I saw AI’s potential to transform education here. The spark from my 2006 robotics club days roared back—this time, not just for me, but for the next generation.

Our Foundation

AITC is a community-driven initiative born from students' passion for ethical technology. While we operate independently as a grassroots movement, we are actively working to align our activities with NUOL's framework and Lao regulations as we grow.

While currently a grassroots collective, we’re laying groundwork to become:
Laos’ First Student-Led AI Hub recognized by NUOL and aligned with the Ministry of Technology’s 2030 vision.
